Theophilus Barasa is a final-year medical student at Kenyatta University with a deep passion for advancing healthcare through research, technology, and leadership. He is committed to integrating innovative research with social impact strategies to drive transformative changes in healthcare systems worldwide.
Barasa conducted a comprehensive study assessing neonatal care practices at a Level 5 hospital in Kenya, focusing on the feasibility of implementing the "At-Risk" model for newborn care. His findings highlighted strengths in essential newborn care while also addressing critical challenges, including overmedicalization, understaffing, incorrect antibiotic dosing, and shortages of essential medicines.
With a vision to reduce neonatal mortality and improve healthcare outcomes, Barasa hopes his work will inspire global conversations on alternative care models and contribute to evidence-based policy reforms in newborn care.
