What inspired you to join Mountaintop?
"I was inspired to join the Mountaintop Fellowship to collaborate with passionate leaders and explore innovative solutions to global challenges. This opportunity aligns with my commitment to leveraging science and technology for a sustainable and equitable future"
Nisa Turgut is a Bioengineering student at Yıldız Technical University, Turkey, with a strong commitment to advancing sustainable solutions in the pharmaceutical field. Her passion lies in utilizing her technical expertise and leadership skills to drive innovation in healthcare and research.
Motivated by witnessing the impact of malaria on those around her, Nisa undertook research aimed at contributing to global efforts to improve malaria diagnosis, treatment, and eradication. Her study explored the epidemiology, transmission, and life cycle of malaria, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on leveraging computational techniques over traditional diagnostic methods.
Her findings highlighted the transformative potential of computational approaches, such as the use of neural networks for highly accurate diagnosis of infected blood samples and K-Means clustering for enhanced image segmentation in blood smear analysis. Building on these insights, Nisa aims to expand her research by integrating machine learning with molecular data to identify novel drug targets, driving progress toward sustainable healthcare solutions.
Nisa is also deeply committed to empowering communities through advancements in science and technology. Through the Mountaintop Aspire Institute Fellowship, she seeks to further develop her leadership skills and contribute to impactful solutions in healthcare and beyond.
