MOUNTAINTOP SOCIAL IMPACT EXECUTIVE FELLOWSHIP
For executives guiding institutions that shape communities
12 months • Two weeks at Harvard • Building transformational leadership
The Mountaintop Social Impact Executive Fellowship (SIEF) is a one-year hybrid program for executives who guide institutions that advance the common good. Now in its third year, this world-class program strengthens the capacity of leaders in government, nonprofits, philanthropy, and education to deepen and scale systems change.
The fellowship includes an intensive two-week residential Leadership Institute held at Harvard’s Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Ethics. Fellows engage in 1:1 mentorship, virtual convenings, peer exchange sessions, and executive coaching. They leave with new tools, expanded global networks, and the confidence to lead with purpose in complex contexts.

Why Our Fellowship
The greater the responsibility, the more complex the decisions. This program is for you if:

You are guiding an organization through turbulent change.

You are building teams that must perform and endure under pressure.
-
You value impact, but face constant tradeoffs and competing demands.
These are the realities executives in the social impact sector face.
The fellowship creates the structured space to step back, reflect, and sharpen leadership. Fellows gain frameworks, tools, and strategies from Harvard faculty, experienced practitioners, and peers who are experts on the skills needed to create transformative impact.
What You Gain
The Social Impact Executive Fellowship equips you to:
-
Design strategies that extend influence across systems and stakeholders.
-
Strengthen skills related to management, culture, and operations.

Lead with confidence in moments of uncertainty and transition.
After the fellowship, you will receive an executive certificate from Mountaintop and join a lifelong global peer network of leaders across 175+ countries.

The Fellowship Journey
Phase 1: Online Preparation (February – June 2026)
The journey begins with preparation. Fellows work with the Mountaintop team to complete visa applications, design individualized leadership growth plans, and participate in online sessions that set the foundation for the in-person Leadership Institute. Topics include foundations of adaptive leadership, systems change, relationship building, and other introductory topics drawn from the Leadership Institute curriculum. Time commitment: up to five hours per month.

Phase 2: In-Person Leadership Institute (July 9-23, 2026 | Cambridge, MA)
The centerpiece of the fellowship is a two-week residential Leadership Institute hosted at the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Ethics. Fellows take part in:
-
Expert breakout sessions on areas such as operational excellence, team culture, leader wellbeing, nonprofit financial management, theories of change, fundraising, scaling social ventures, and additional themes tailored to the cohort’s growth goals.
-
Adaptive leadership labs led by Harvard Kennedy School faculty and expert practitioners, designed to build systems thinking, strengthen negotiation skills, and develop strategies for decision-making under pressure.
-
Workshops and dialogues on trust-building in crisis, evaluation and learning, movement building, strategic storytelling, and related areas.
-
Immersive visits to leading institutions such as the Massachusetts State House and Partners in Health.
Fellows engage with faculty, practitioners, and peers in settings designed to sharpen their leadership capacity and expand their global perspectives. See a sample curriculum and speaker list from our recent Leadership Institute for social impact executives.

Phase 3: Mentorship and Virtual Convenings (August 2026 – June 2027)
Following the Leadership Institute, Fellows participate in ongoing mentorship and sustained learning. This includes one-on-one executive mentorship, monthly expert sessions, quarterly workshops, and a multi-day virtual retreat designed to reinforce and apply learning throughout the year.

Phase 4: Beyond the Fellowship
Completion of the program marks the beginning of lifelong connection to Mountaintop’s global community. Fellows join an international network of peers, mentors, and partners with continued opportunities for collaboration, resources, and convenings.
