What inspired you to join Mountaintop?
"Mountaintop represents an opportunity to strengthen my ability to drive transformational change in Lesotho's healthcare, and to grow within a community of leaders committed to building systems that serve people."
Thatohatsi Sefuthi is a Senior Technical Advisor for Health Systems Strengthening at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) in Lesotho, where she collaborates closely with various Ministry of Health directorates and programs to promote national priorities on health system sustainability, workforce optimization, and strategic resource allocation.
At a time of shifting global health financing, Thatohatsi is helping lead efforts to ensure the continuity of critical health services while strengthening the efficiency of Lesotho’s health system. Before this role, she worked across Southern Africa and Southeast Asia to expand access to HIV and TB care. As Regional Manager for advanced HIV disease (AHD) in Southern Africa, she supported countries in scaling up life-saving interventions, including leading the nationwide rollout of the AHD care package across government hospitals and health facilities in Lesotho, ensuring access to essential medicines and bolstering frontline health worker capacity.
Combining frontline experience with rigorous academic study, Thatohatsi holds an MPhil in Health Systems and Public Health from Stellenbosch University and is pursuing a PhD in the same field. Whether she is performing economic evaluations or creating national sustainability plans, her goal remains the same: ensuring health equity and better health outcomes for every Basotho.
