What inspired you to join Mountaintop?
"I was moved by the Mountain Top Leadership Institute desire to strengthen leaders within their communities, if I could directly quote it; "strengthens local institutions in places worldwide where success too often means leaving and not coming back." I came to accept that I can still succeed in my community. That is why I chose the applicant-led Mountain Top Fellowship"
Atwau Pius, the CEO of USahihi Health Group Limited, stands at the forefront of healthcare innovation in Uganda. Under his dynamic leadership, the organization has introduced groundbreaking solutions like the Ask the Doctor App and the I-TRACK immunization tracking system. The Ask the Doctor web App is transforming access to medical consultations and health information for people with non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension. Ask the Doctor through different media including a web app, Facebook, and WhatsApp communities has reached over 50,000 people with health education on the prevention of NCDs through online campaigns, daily health tips on WhatsApp and Facebook, and free consultation services they offer for people with NCDs. Meanwhile, I-TRACK, an AI-powered system (work in progress), is revolutionizing immunization tracking and logistics, ensuring timely vaccinations and providing real-time data to healthcare facilities. This system is improving immunization coverage rates in areas where it is implemented. At least 8 in 10 of the children we follow up during their immunization complete fully, though with manageable setbacks including having to take catch-up vaccines.
Driven by an unwavering commitment to healthcare accessibility, Atwau champions the belief that quality healthcare is a fundamental right for all, irrespective of income or social status. His work is characterized by innovative tech-based solutions that address pressing health needs in underserved communities. By collaborating with government agencies, healthcare providers, and international organizations such as UNICEF and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, Atwau has effectively expanded the reach and impact of his initiatives, fostering a more equitable healthcare landscape. To date, his initiatives have positively impacted the lives of over 100,000 individuals across Uganda.
Atwau's leadership and passion for using technology to bridge healthcare disparities have made a profound impact on Uganda's healthcare system. His visionary approach has revolutionized how healthcare services are delivered, particularly in remote and underserved areas. By integrating cutting-edge technology with healthcare practices, Atwau has significantly improved access to essential medical services, ensuring that even the most vulnerable populations receive timely and effective care. His relentless pursuit of excellence and commitment to social equity have led to the development of innovative solutions that not only address immediate health needs but also contribute to long-term systemic improvements. Through his efforts, Atwau has created a more resilient and equitable healthcare infrastructure, empowering communities and enhancing the overall well-being of the population.
For his fellowship, Atwau Pius will continue to pave the way for a healthier and more just society, embodying the true spirit of a changemaker in the realm of healthcare through his ongoing work under USahihi Health Group Limited's initiatives.
